Born in Los Angeles and now based in New York City, Leah is a visual artist currently pursuing a Fine Arts degree at Parsons School of Design. Her work explores themes of identity, memory, and nostalgia, as well as drawing from nature and personal experiences to create intimate and meaningful work. She explores how everyday objects can act as a form of self-portraiture, holding memories and representing growth. She works mainly in realism, aiming to capture the details and intricacies of the subjects depicted. A contrast of strong and delicate imagery allows for an exploration of complexity in identity and beauty, finding harmony in seemingly opposing ideas. She works in a variety of mediums including pencil, colored pencil, acrylic paint, and oil paint.

Recent work has centered around a personal but also widely relevant experience with religion. These paintings explore the complexities of growing up within Christian and Catholic traditions, investigating devotion, restriction, purity, and alienation. These works confront religious doctrine and the emotional effects it has, specifically in relation to gender, sexuality, and bodily autonomy. Leah’s recent paintings visualize the tension between sacredness and lived experiences, reframing sacred symbols to challenge how religious imagery has shaped expectations around purity and modesty. Oil painting is a medium traditionally associated with religious art, and this is used to question and reimagine what is sacred. These works provide a timely reflection in our current culture and society, encouraging conversations around reproductive rights, sexual and gender identity, and religious nationalism.
